Abstract

Purpose:To investigate the effects of the music therapy on anxiety, heart rate and blood pressure of the patients with coronary angiography.

Method:The study was performed with the nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design from May 26th thru July 3rd of 2002. The subjects included 60 subjects who will be programmed to have cardiac catheterization. The patients favorite musics were provided, and then their blood pressure, heart rate, and the anxiety degree using the Spielberger¡¯s scale were measured. Data were analyzed by using the t-test and-test to determine the similarity between the test group and control group, and the hypothesis was tested by using the t-test and ANCOVA.

Result:State anxiety lowered at the test group as compared with at the control group(t=-6.944, p=0.000). Systolic blood pressure lowered at the test group as compared with at the control group(F=1.793, pa.186). Diastolic blood pressure lowered at the test group as compared with at the control group(t=-0.475, p=0.637). Heart rate decreased at the test group as compared to the control group(t=-0.280, p=0.780).

Conclusion:Based on the results described above, it was considered that the music therapy was clearly effective in decreasing the degree of state anxiety due to coronary angiography.
